Terana Oregano 21g

Mexican Oregano, scientifically known as Lippia graveolens, is a distinct herb native to Mexico and Central America. Unlike the more widely known Mediterranean oregano (Origanum vulgare), Mexican oregano is derived from a different plant species.

  • Flavor Profile: Mexican Oregano has a citrusy and slightly earthy flavor, which sets it apart from its Mediterranean counterpart. It often features notes of mild licorice and citrus, contributing to its unique taste.
  • Aroma: The herb is renowned for its strong and aromatic fragrance, which intensifies when dried. This aromatic quality adds depth to a variety of dishes, making it a popular choice in Mexican and Central American cuisines.
  • Appearance: Mexican Oregano typically presents itself as small, pointed leaves with a vibrant green hue. When dried, the leaves may take on a more muted, greyish-green color.
  • Culinary Applications: Mexican Oregano is often used in both fresh and dried forms. The dried leaves are crushed or ground before adding to dishes. It imparts a distinctive flavor to soups, sauces, and meat dishes, enhancing the overall taste.

Suggested uses:

  • Oregano is the spice that gives pizza its characteristic flavor.
  • It pairs well with tomato, egg, and cheese-based dishes, and can be added to lamb, beef, or pork dishes.
  • Try dipping aromatic vegetables in olive oil, garlic, and oregano.
  • Make a sauce with melted butter, lemon juice and a little oregano; add to grilled fish or poultry.
  • Add crushed oregano leaves to pasta sauces, salad dressings, and ground beef dishes.
  • To bring out its flavor, crush the oregano by hand before adding it to your recipes and do it at the end of the cooking process.

Keep Terana oregano in a cool, dry, and preferably dark place, such as a kitchen cabinet or spice rack. Stored correctly, it will maintain its quality for months.
